PROJECT PHILOSOPHY

The HighMode system has been developed according to the peculiar project philosophy of Tecnonautica, which is already known for its hardware architecture for the traditional electric system. This hardware architecture consists in the couple control card - actuation interface placed in the main switch board.
The new system’s parts are always the traditional hw full custom cards, developed by Tecnonautica for the peculiar needs of electrical parameters measurements avoiding waste of money, space and weight (condition which always occurs in units realized with industrial components).

The peculiar features of our new system are:

Modularity: the system is fully modular and thus can be configured time to time according to the needs of the board system. The control of other parts or systems can be left to the traditional control cards (i.e. talk back system).
Downgrade Compatibility: the system is 100% adaptable to the traditional one, already installed to our customers; it means that it is possible to install a HighMode system on a ship that has a traditional Tecnonautica system, simply changing the control cards without modifying the wiring. This is very interesting in case of selling the boat, allowing an easy and money saving upgrade.
Possibility of expansion: it will always be possible to install a traditional panels system, leaving open the possibility of a future upgrade through the PC. The cost of this solution is only the cost of the twisted pair for the bus, wired in advance.

Security: Tecnonautica, with its 30 years of experience in the installation field, gives a personal interpretation of the centralized monitoring system. With HighMode it is possible to control in a centralized way or by a touch-screen all those loads and services that is easier and safer to have always within reach, like the traditional keyboards that can be found even in the darkness or with stormy weather ( e.g.)
Intrinsical redundancy: HighMode, with its capability to control all the electrical system by the touch-screen or by the remote control, has an intrinsical redundancy not available in other systems, especially those based on the couple PC / PLC. If the centralized system fails or the bus is accidentally disconnected, one can always control the whole system easily and safely by the remote control without checking complex diagrams or acting manually on relays or other devices. Our goal, to bring back the boat into the harbour safely, is thus reached.
Double-Touch approach: the control software has been developed according to the need of linearity and simplicity. It is possible to jump from one function to the other using no more than two touches, usually placed in the same positions. In fact the system has the typical tree structure (home page and submenus) but it appears as a group of interchangeable panels.
Easy installation: our monitoring system is “implanted” over the traditional one. So, any screen is the image of a corresponding hardware panel. Thanks to the easy dip-switch configuration, the shipyard can make small changes without the help of Tecnonautica experts. Our goal is still to deliver to the shipyard all the system already configured, the task being only wiring and connections. However, in case of last minute changes, a powerful but very simple software tool allows graphical and functional modifications to be made in few mouse clicks.

 


SYSTEM COMPONENTS

a) Actuation Interface: they are the Tecnonautica custom cards. Their duty is to activate the power relays inside the power switchboard and to gather all the feedbacks in order to send them back to the panels. They are usually all placed inside the main power switchbox.

b) Control Cards: they are the Tecnonautica custom cards normally placed in the main remote control panel. Their duty is to drive the actuation interfaces above mentioned. . The control cards are connected to the interfaces by the traditional and safe flat-cable system. They also are equipped by a Tecnonautica bus interface for the communication with a control PC via a proprietary bus (named TN-bus) using a normal RS-485 port. In the HighMode philosophy all the controls are concentrated in a single panel which can be used as “hard backup” of the centralized system.


NOTE: until here the structure is the same as the traditional system one.

c) Master PC for monitoring and control: This is an industrial grade PC for rough environments with a heavy duty touch-screen and equipped with the TN-bus for the communication with the system’s control cards.

d) HighMode Software: is the Tecnonautica tool for the control and the monitoring of the board installation.

e) Power Box: is the intelligent power supply for the PC and the monitor. Its main duty is to avoid incorrect and potentially dangerous switching off of the system. Besides, relying on different energy sources available on the installation, continuity of service is achieved . It is connected to the PC by RS485, totally controlled by the HighMode software.

f) Event Recorder (optional): it can be combined with the monitoring software. It is a very safe hardware recorder of the events that occurs to the electric system to allow a future analysis of breakdowns or inefficiencies. It can also record out of order periods of the monitoring system.

g) Further Stations: they are connected to the PC master by a data net and they consent to have until 4 different touch panels to control the system, of course with some differentiation concerning the rights and possibilities of access.

h) Remote Control Units: mobile units for the access and activation of system parts under the centralized control, they are realised on different supports and they use different wireless communication systems.


MONITORING SW STRUCTURE

The HighMode software has a structure based on the idea of “system”; the function are divided in different subsystems:

Electric System: activations, lights, measure and control instruments for battery, alarms.
Propulsion Engines System: visualisation of propulsion engines function parameters.
Dashboards: control of the user dashboards commands
Light System: parallel control of the dashboard functions concerning the lightning, talk back system, horn etc. with a reduced number of screenplays.
Levels: visualisation of the levels of various tanks like fuel, water, sewage etc.



ELECTRIC SYSTEM

When the user selects the electric system, he has under control the following panels:

24Vdc Switches Panel: they can be two or four and control a maximum of ten 24Vdc loads each one. Every pushbutton has its own feedback from the field and can be fully customized in the graphics and in the related label. Configurable burst (pushbutton), toggle (on/off) or preloaded (timer). Maximum number of channels: 40.


24Vdc/220Vac Warnings: two or four panels of warning lights with ten lamps each one (maximum 40 warnings). Every warning can be fully customized in the graphics and in the related label.

Instrument Panel: the maximum number in the system is five. The display is numerical and graphical as well. Till ten voltages and currents can be displayed. Each panels has also six pushbuttons that can be configured either burst or toggle (see above). Sub panels for the recording of electrical measurements and mean value calculation are also present.

Alarms: even five alarm’s panels with a maximum of 48 channels are available. It is possible to put together alarms of the same type, even if belonging to different panels, obtaining thus a classification by categories of the alarms themselves: general alarms, port holes, bilges etc. The graphics can show the boats plans or sections in order to make evident by mean of suitable coloured spots the location of the alarm point at a glance. Even here there is a sub-panel with a historical log of all events. Automatic management of smoke detectors on alarm acknowledgement.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: even if part of the electrical system, it is ALWAYS possible to recall with only one touch the alarm panels from whatever other panel. They also show in real time the arising of new alarm conditions, even though the user is in any sub-page of other systems.


DASHBOARD

this panel allows the management of dashboard loads:
Talk back system
Wipers
Horn

As previously explained, Tecnonautica does not suggest the total submission to the monitoring system of those functions which need to be used often or quickly and safely. We strongly suggest to use for the most critical functions (talk back system, horn etc) the traditional keyboards and to place them within reach.


LIGHTING SYSTEM

Integrate system for the lights control. According to the system philosophy, this panels allows basic control of the boat lights. Until 16 panels are available which are divided in groups of four. Every panel may control till six lights, chosen among those selected on the lights cards or on the system dimmer. Each panel can turn off or turn on the whole group of lights; besides the image show the position and the condition of each light points inside the boat.

LEVELS

A panel set for the control of the boat’s tanks levels. Are available panels to:


monitoring waters: sewage, clear, etc.
monitoring fuel
monitoring special tanks (mineral water, ice maker etc.)

It is possible to set for each level the threshold of too empty/too full visual alarms. There is also a support system for the control of different tanks sizes.

 


MULTIPOINT SYSTEM

The HighMode monitoring system can be expanded to a maximum of four different points to the control of the boat

The control stations can be of different kind:

Master station or Main station: it TOTALLY controls each system component, with no limits. It is usually placed in the bridge.
Crew station: it just shows measures and levels panels without the possibility to make any actuation. It also shows the alarms panels. It normally has a restrict and programmable access to a restricted number of actuations, related to the loads controlled by that area.

It is recommended to use only one master station to be sure of the system resistance and stability.

 



HIGHMODE COMFORT SYSTEM

This is a software for the control of various loads and services not related with the main electrical system. It is specialized in the realization of light sceneries and in the control of multimedia systems.

It controls through a graphic interface and a touch screen till 50 dimmer points (DC or AC), 70 light on/off points, 32 motorized curtains and 4TV lifts.

It is possible to recall until 16 preset sceneries with a single touch and even acting directly on a single light point, dimmer or curtain.

Infrared or wireless controls are also possible.

The graphic is highly specialized with a detailed customisation for each particular boat where it is installed.


INSTALLATION AND PROGRAMMING

As it is for the traditional Tecnonautica systems, the shipyard may receive the set for the monitoring system already configured according to the board wiring, directly from Tecnonautica. The shipyard will have as usual the duty of a correct wiring.

HighMode is a “general purpose” software by Tecnonatica’s choice; it means that starting from a common base, a new configuration can be achieved simply using new settings.

The companion of HighMode is “HighSetting”, a powerful configuration software through which allows also th shipyard to quickly and simply modify system parameters.
The system structure, which has a distribute elaboration and intelligence, allows a quick troubleshooting of errors or problems come up during the wiring. No complex operations or highly trained personnel is required.

At the moment Tecnonautica is engaged in studies in order to widen the system capabilities and which will allow remote support and monitoring of the boat system through which Tecnonautica experts can help the shipyard even from distance to fix any problem that could eventually arise.
